design by Gryphon Corpus

Romain de Tirtoff, better known as Erté, was an extraordinary fashion designer who worked for Harper's Bazaar in the teens and 20s, and as a theater and set designer throughout his life. I've been hugely inspired by his work, and this design is almost all his, all I did was make it knitable. (I wonder if Erté was a knitter? I bet he was.) Below is the original sketch as it appeared in Harper's Bazaar in March of 1916.
